Priceless Moments in Mentoring
Mentees in Santa Rosa, California, have enjoyed some unique experiences through T.R.A.C.life. During Christmas cookie making, Mentoring Director Sonya taught them how to make Filipino spring rolls—which were a hit. Most recently the group visited San Francisco where they enjoyed a planetarium and art museum. Unforgettable memories in the making!
A few weeks ago, mentors and mentees in Erie, Pennsylvania, loved going to an Escape Room where they solved Pharaoh’s Tomb. The two teams competed to see who could escape first. The girls beat the boys!
One mentor in Norman, Oklahoma, reported that he’s been surprised with how open his mentee is with him. He credits being the young man’s camp counselor for the last several years at T.R.A.C. as helping start their relationship off strong. T.R.A.C. and T.R.A.C.life work!
A young lady in Ocala, Florida, had never baked before her mentor arranged for them to spend time in the church kitchen. One of the helpers described how the mentor took time to explain every step, including how to use measuring cups and basic fractions. The mentee had never even cracked an egg! T.R.A.C.life isn’t just fun; the program teaches important life skills.
T.R.A.C.life quarterly events are a fun way for mentees and mentors to connect with other mentees and mentors. Lincoln, Nebraska, recently held a fun Olympics for their group. Even though the weather moved the teens inside, highlights included sack races and a race involving toilet plungers and four-wheel scooters.
Becky Shea, Southwest Regional Director, recently met her mentee on the girls’ actual birthday. She told Becky it was her best birthday so far. Mentoring makes an impact!
Bella* (name changed) lives with 8 or 9 other people in an 800-square-foot shack in Florida. At camp, she loves taking long showers because they don’t have hot running water. Recently, Bella lost the person she knows as step-mom, her dad’s girlfriend. During a T.R.A.C.life event, Bella told her mentor she loved inflatable sumo wrestling because it gave her a chance to get out all the emotions pent up inside. At another event, Bella was afraid to skate, but another mentee came alongside her and helped. Loving support is the heart of T.R.A.C.life.
