Video Guidelines for SOTOs

Stories inspire.

Stories like the one Holly Lanker shared move us closer to our Big Heavenly Audacious Goal to be in all 50 states by the end of the decade and support every camp with a mentoring program.

So, we need your help.

Sarah Blankenship, Teen Reach Communications Director, wants to improve our social media platform through video reels. To accomplish this, we’re asking EVERY camp and mentoring program to provide ONE video this year.

T.R.A.C. Directors, we know you’re busy, so we’ve enlisted the help of your L2 Facilitators. At Challenge Course training this year, all L2 Facilitators received the video guidelines below. They will be the point person at your camp to collect one story to record.

T.R.A.C.life Directors, the same goes for mentoring. We would like to receive one story from each program by the end of the year.

The story doesn’t have to be huge. We’re looking for moments to celebrate on social media. And the video doesn’t have to be a major Hollywood production. In fact, the trend is real footage, not super polished videos. So, keep it simple. The storyteller can be any one of your volunteers or mentors. You do the recording. Sarah will edit and add the Teen Reach logo. Email Will or Angela if you have questions.

Easy enough, right?

SOTO Video Guidelines

  1. Time: One minute or less.

  2. Speak clearly. Limit/avoid background noise. The closer the phone is to the person being interviewed, the better the audio quality will be.

  3. Use first names only, preferably fictious names.

  4. Location: Make sure there’s nothing in the background you don’t want filmed, including campers or mentees.

  5. Share the following information:

WHO was involved? For example: two campers and their camp counselor.
WHAT happened? Be brief when describing.
WHEN/WHERE did it happen? For example: during challenge course.
WHY/HOW did this make an impact? For example: Camper A overcame his fear.

  6. Using the T.R.A.C./T.R.A.C.life Director and Assistant Director’s phones, record at the same time. One in portrait (vertical) mode. The other in landscape (horizontal) mode. Send both videos to the National Director of Camps (Will) or the National Director of Mentoring (Angela).
