Tongue Print

“Let my tongue sing about your word, for all your commands are right.” - Psalm 119:172

Our Creator never ceases to amaze me.

I just learned that we each have a unique tongue print as distinctive as our fingerprints.

God has a lot to say about our tongues in His Word:

  • Those who control their tongue will have a long life. (Proverbs 13:3a)

  • The tongue can bring life or death. (Proverbs 18:21a)

  • If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. (James 1:26)

  • The tongue is a small thing . . . but a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. (James 3:5)

  • Every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to God. (Romans 14:11)

Since God takes our tongues seriously, what we say really matters. Our tongue leaves behind a lasting print.

  • A grateful comment can be the reason a volunteer returns the following summer.

  • A struggling caseworker or foster parent might just need a word of encouragement to get through another tough day.

  • And a compliment to a camper can impact him or her for years.

Father God, help us not to leave behind sticky smudges that need to be wiped from someone’s heart. Rather, help us to leave behind encouragement and life with our words. Amen.

NOTE: This was the Teen Reach devo for January 2021. A little throwback fun to ponder.
