Resolution or Transformation by Serena Howell

Resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not to do something; the quality of being determined or resolute.

Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Studying the difference between resolution and transformation is interesting. Resolution is more about an individual’s power and determination while transformation is more about tapping into God’s power and purpose.

Shifting patterns and focus can change our lives, but trying to make changes all on our own can seem daunting and overwhelming and usually doesn’t last. When we tap into God’s power and plan for transformation, the patterns and focus are easier to sustain as we grow more connected to Him.

Here are some potential steps toward lasting transformation:

  • Daily ask the Lord to guard and direct thoughts and actions.

  • Recognize the sources of self-focused and self-defeating thoughts.

  • Replace self-focused thinking with God’s truth and promises.

  • Take time to rest and allow renewing to take place with healthy margins.

Real transformation: that’s our heart at Teen Reach for our volunteers, campers and mentees. Blessings in this new year!
