Chemistry
The chemistry between this long-time mentor and mentee (now officially an adult) was evident at National Leadership Training in Washington this year.
The power of one caring adult in the life of an at-risk youth has proven to have deep impacts, including:
Increased high school graduation rates
Healthier relationships
Improved attitudes about school
Enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem
Stronger relationships with parents, teachers, and peers
Improved behavior, both at school and at home
Enhanced interpersonal skills
Decreased likelihood of drugs and alcohol use
These all have certainly proven true for Faith.
A recent high school graduate, she’s headed to build ships in the Naval yard in Bremerton. Her mentor, Carolee, explained this was a competitive job. “I’m so proud of Faith. She’s like one of my daughters.”
That’s the power of one caring adult—the natural chemistry that happens through mentoring.
