Noisemakers

“Never stop praying.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Nancy Carlson, longtime director at Kearney T.R.A.C. recently passed out noisemakers to trainees at National Leadership Training in Nebraska.

“I am not good at praying,” she admitted. “I want a formula, and then I know I will forget things and people I want to pray for . . . it has been a battle for years.”

“My mind is almost always noisy.” Nancy blew on a noisemaker and asked if anyone could relate; everyone nodded.

“I’m thinking about people and situations, and often I’m trying to fix things and solve all kinds of issues. I feel like the old telephone operator, working on connecting problems with answers. One day, I realized that the noise is my reminder to pray. I even bought a pack of noisemakers as a physical object lesson in my prayer life.”

Nancy shared how ALL she needs to do is TAKE THE NOISE TO GOD. When a situation starts making noise, just give it to God. When a person comes to mind, pray for him or her.

In complete vulnerability, Nancy said, “It’s never my responsibility to solve all the situations that arise in my life, at camp, or in the lives of those I love. When I pray, I have access to the throne room of God.”

What a great reminder to us all!
