J’s Story

Multiple adults who let you down.
13 years old.
He’s heard it before, but this is going to be an amazing year! We will show up over and over again until you believe it . . . and us. You are already the bravest 13-year-old I know!
(If you have thought about becoming a foster parent, THIS IS YOUR SIGN!)
The school counselor asked J about his favorite part of school, and he said nothing. She asked when he last liked school and why. His answer: “Fifth grade because that’s the last time my life was regular.”
I’ve cried 59 times this week and laughed double that. I don’t know if we can help make your life regular, but I know we can help make you feel safe and loved. Pray for J.
Amy Ambrose, T.R.A.C. Lincoln, NE, co-director, posted this on Facebook at the start of the new school year. Here’s the back story:
Camper J came to T.R.A.C. as a first-time camper with no RFK experience. A transportation service brought him to registration. He had been living with an aunt, but only temporarily. Social services had been looking for a home for over a year. With school starting, finding a home felt impossible for J who’d been on probation multiple years.
BUT GOD had a different plan.
Amy and her husband, Omar, immediately felt a strong burden for J when he arrived at T.R.A.C. that was different than the normal feelings volunteers usually have for campers. Through prayer and conversations, the door opened for this couple to provide a home for J so he could start school in Lincoln this fall.
The story is still being written, but J is at a great middle school, getting an Individual Education Plan (IEP), playing soccer, and learning boxing techniques. He may even begin piano lessons. J has connected well with the family and biological kids. He is getting a mentor through T.R.A.C.life and is surrounded by the T.R.A.C. team who is for him, along with Amy and Omar who are fostering him.
The journey has not always been easy these last three months, but Amy and Omar have experienced such beauty and joy since having J be a part of their lives. Wow, God!
